This policy explains what information is collected when you visit mantiereidii.com and map.mantiereidii.com (the live NYC subway map), why, and what you can do about it. The short version: I don’t sell anything, run ads, or ask you for personal information. I use Google Analytics to see which pages people read, and like every website, the services that deliver and protect these sites see basic technical information about each visit.
Who I am
These are the personal websites of Mantie Reid II, an IT professional in New York City. The NYC transit pages are an independent data project built from MTA open data; they are not affiliated with the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA). Questions about this policy: [email protected].
Information you give me
The sites have no accounts, comment forms, sign-up forms or purchases. If you email me, I receive your email address and whatever you write, and I use it only to reply.
Analytics (Google Analytics)
Both sites use Google Analytics, set up through Google’s Site Kit plugin, to count visits and see which pages are useful. It records things like the pages you view, how you arrived (for example from a search engine or a link), your approximate location (city or region), and your type of device and browser. Google Analytics does not log or store full IP addresses. It uses cookies (listed below) to tell new visits from returning ones.
I see this information only as totals and trends, not as a profile of any one person. I don’t use it to show you ads. Google processes it under the Google Privacy Policy, and explains how it uses data from sites that use its services. To opt out of Google Analytics on every website, you can install Google’s opt-out browser add-on or block cookies in your browser.
Hosting, delivery and security
- Cloudflare delivers both sites and protects them from attacks and abusive bots. It processes each visitor’s IP address and browser details to do that, may set a short-lived security cookie, and gives me cookie-free visit totals. See the Cloudflare Privacy Policy.
- ScalaHosting runs the web server. Like all web servers, it keeps access logs (IP address, browser, page requested and time) for security and troubleshooting, and these are deleted on a rolling basis.
- Wordfence, a security plugin, checks requests for attacks and records the IP addresses of blocked or suspicious requests.
- Backups of the site are kept so it can be restored after a problem. They don’t contain any visitor information beyond the security records above.
Content loaded from other services
To show fonts, charts and maps, pages load files from other services. Your browser connects to them directly, so they receive your IP address and browser details, as with any website you visit:
- Google Fonts (fonts)
- cdnjs and jsDelivr (charting and map code)
- Esri / ArcGIS (background map on the ridership pages)
- NYC Department of City Planning map servers (background map and transit layers on the live subway map, based on OpenStreetMap data)
Live train positions and service alerts are fetched from the MTA by my server, not by your browser. Links to social networks (LinkedIn, X, Reddit, Facebook, Bluesky) are plain links: nothing is sent to those sites unless you click one.
Cookies
| Cookie | Set by | Purpose | Lasts |
|---|---|---|---|
_ga, _ga_J6RYWP1RVT | Google Analytics | Tell new visits from returning ones | Up to 2 years |
__cf_bm, cf_clearance | Cloudflare | Tell people from bots and protect the sites | 30 minutes to about a year |
WordPress sets login cookies only for the site’s administrator. You can delete or block cookies in your browser settings; the sites still work without them.
Sharing and selling
I don’t sell your personal information or share it for advertising. Information reaches the service providers above only as needed to run, measure and protect the sites, or if the law requires it.
How long information is kept
- Google Analytics: according to the data retention setting in Google Analytics, after which detailed records are deleted and only totals remain.
- Server and security logs: a limited time, deleted on a rolling basis.
Your choices and rights
You can block cookies, use the Google Analytics opt-out add-on, or use a browser that blocks trackers, and the sites will still work. Depending on where you live (for example in California or the European Union), you may have the right to ask what personal information I hold about you, to correct it, or to have it deleted.
Children
These sites are not directed at children under 13, and I don’t knowingly collect personal information from them.
Changes to this policy
If the sites start collecting anything new, I’ll update this page and the date at the top.
This policy’s structure follows the privacy policy template that comes with WordPress (GPLv2 or later).
