OMNY: Fare Cap, How It Works & How Many Riders Use It
Tap-to-pay on NYC subways and buses: prices from omny.info and ridership from MTA open data, updated monthly · Not affiliated with the MTA
How the OMNY fare cap works
From omny.info, November 2026.
Tap the same card or phone every time. Once you have paid $35 within 7 days (12 rides at $3.00 are $36, so the 12th ride costs only $2), every ride after that is free until the 7 days are up. Your first tap starts the 7 days. Transfers and group fares do not count toward the cap.
| Fare | Price |
|---|---|
| Subway or local bus ride | $3.00 |
| Weekly cap: subways and local buses | $35, then free for the rest of the 7 days |
| Weekly cap: with express buses | $67 |
| Weekly cap: Reduced-Fare riders | $17.50 |
